Comments Came into the race feeling no pressure. Ive run enough marathons to know how they hurt. My training barely peeked 40 on the good weeks, while longer runs were sparse. I tried to go out conservative, keeping my legs fresh as long as possible. Enjoyed a slow first mile with Joan Benoit Samuelson. She is clearly a legend and still a beast, rolling a 6:10 in the first mile. Despite cold winds and rain, I never felt in trouble or worried, the quads held up well even through heart break. My one regret is not slipping on a pair of gloves before the start. Towards the end I was missing water cups due to numb/swollen fingers.
It would have been nice to get under 2:40, but I cant complain with a PR on far less training than usual, in difficult weather, on a rough course. I gutted it out using my previous training cycles as a solid base to make it to the finish. Far more enjoyable than last years struggles, great company with the Rochester crew. Looking forward to the next one.
